Internet Explorer Fix that will save you agony

April 27, 2011 in WebDesign1, WebDesign2

I came across this in my frustration with the way IE9 was displaying my website.  It was ignoring a lot of my CSS3 features (rounded corners, shadows…) and some other CSS.  It turns out IE8/9 are set automatically in “Compatibility Mode” that will go backwards to IE7 and ignore some of your CSS.

To avoid this annoyance, all you have to do is add a meta tag that specifies the mode for IE8/9 –
< meta content=”IE=edge” http-equiv=”X-UA-Compatible” />
which translates to “use latest version without any compatibility mode”
See for tons of detail (not really necessary to read).
